AQR's Business Skills

Building open, honest, trusting relationships through effective conversation.

Evidence shows that when teams are able to have good conversations there’s greater engagement and trust and more successful collaboration and performance. Conversely, when problems arise it’s often because the wrong conversation - or indeed no conversation - has taken place.

This one day practical and interactive session will look at the impact of good conversations on:

  • Developing trusting relationships with your team/your clients
  • Having effective team/project meetings
  • Managing performance

We’ll introduce you to useful techniques and tips, backed up by robust theory, on how to have effective conversations, including how to:

  • Give and receive feedback
  • Have those difficult conversations we often shy away from

All of these techniques apply whether the conversation is with your peers, your manager, the people you manage, your friends or even your partner!

The aim is that you’ll leave the session with:

  • Heightened consciousness of what happens during a conversation (for example, what influences the behaviour of each of the participants)
  • Increased confidence for taking the initiative and getting the best out of any conversation

The session is suitable for anyone who has responsibility for managing a group of people or a client relationship.

It will be run by Catherine Connolly and Ingrid Allen from Conscious Conversations. They have backgrounds in HR and internal communications respectfully, and have both previously worked within the market research industry.
