***BOOKINGS HAVE NOW CLOSED*** Gaining qualitative skills from therapeutic and coaching practices.
Qualitative research was born from psychoanalysis.
We still borrow from therapeutic practices, even if we dont know it.
We talk about empathy, relationship building, holding moments, creating safe spaces.
We challenge, set goals, strive for answers and endings.
We seek human truths.
We can learn so much from the schools of therapy, counselling and coaching.
Our two expert tutors are researchers whove launched their own therapeutic practices. They will reflect on what researchers can gain from the skills required of therapists.
The day will be a mix of practice, theory and conversation that will touch on every aspect of our work including moderating, leading teams, working with clients, even analysis (no, not that sort of analysis).
Who is the course for?
We hope to be joined by mid to senior level researchers who are actively interested and curious about gaining new perspectives and skills across many aspects of their working lives
Meet our tutors:
Zeynep Kasap is Product Manager at Kantar and is also person-centred psychotherapist. Zeynep opted for a hyphenated career following academia, focusing on both market research AND psychotherapy at the same time. She has been working with psychotherapy clients for the past 10 years. Her session will introduce us to some of the key aspects of the person-centred approach in psychotherapy, and how these can support our work as qualitative researchers.
Darren Harvey runs Lotus Research and is a Psychodynamic Counsellor at Highgate Counselling Centre. His session will delve into the links between psychoanalysis and qualitative research, explore how psychoanalytic thinking can make us more effective as moderators, and highlight some ways that we can make use of the live thoughts and feelings which exist in the room when we are working with participants.

Quotes from last year's course:
It was a really fantastic day, lots of food for thought on both a personal level as well as plenty of practical applications. I loved how interactive it was and really helped give perspective on some of the theory. Carol Wale, Relish Research
Its been a long time since Ive been on a moderation course designed for more senior researchers and I got loads out of it. And it felt particularly important now to delve into these core skills while the industry is being consumed by all things AI. Great trainers and a really satisfying day. Sarah Jay, Acacia Avenue
I had a brilliant day at the Be Think Do session. Not only was it fascinating to learn about different coaching and therapy models, it was a chance to step back and think about how we approach people when were moderating. I found the section on psychoanalysis particularly useful - this might be because its the part I knew least about, but also because they did a great job of highlighting the connections between their work and Qual. You all also seemed to foster a lovely atmosphere in the room, which felt important given what we were discussing, and it was great to chat to other researchers. Kate Benson, Sky
