Conducting Effective Intercepts Course

AQR’s Conducting Effective Intercepts Course

Thursday 18th July 2024
10:00am - 4:30pm

Loitering in the aisles, persevering in the face of refusals, aching feet. Ugh, intercepts and observations.
In the moment feedback, sparks of insight from ‘just’ a 5-minute chat, being at the coalface of real time consumer behaviour. Yay, intercepts and observations.

Capturing in-the-moment feedback is invaluable for many briefs and provides insights we can’t get from a group discussion.

But boy, can they create anxiety and they’re not always what we want to do all day - and these feelings stand in the way of best practise.

There is a skill to approaching strangers for ‘just a quick chat’.

This face-to-face course will equip people starting out in research with all they need to prepare, plan and execute brilliant intercepts.

The day will include:

  • Coaching and theory related to when intercepts and observations meet a client’s brief and what questions are best asked in this environment (and how)
  • Establishing how to prepare for getting out there, including how we can feel safe
  • A guest speaker to give us some great tips for observing consumer behaviour in situ
  • A practical chance to put the theory into practise. We’ll be getting out there to conduct intercepts in the shopping areas of Angel, London and then reflecting on our experiences

Led by AQR Board Members
Chloe Fowler, Founder, The Nest Research
Natasha Ward, Associate Director, Acacia Avenue

Guest Speakers
Hannah Rogers, Business Development Director, Kokoro
Zoe Evans, Research Manager, Kokoro

Who is the course for?
This course is ideal for people who are in the first years in their career. Intercepts and observations are often a rite of passage in a qualitative career. We think it’s assumed to be an ‘easy’ part of the job but we don’t think that’s the case!
