Market research

Research carried out to provide information for organisations, to help guide decisions and policy. Regularly used by commercial businesses, it is also employed by public sector and non-profit organisations. Market research often involves collecting information about how, why and what people buy, but it is sometimes used as an umbrella term covering opinion research and some kinds of social research.
