Video Streaming

Video streaming involves sending media content in a continuous stream of compressed data over the Internet, which is displayed to the viewer as soon as it arrives. This means the viewer can watch a video in real time, rather than downloading a file and watching it later.

In the research industry this has become a common way to watch group discussions remotely and is of particular benefit in international projects, with a simultaneous translation overlaid where appropriate. However, some in the industry feel watching group in this was fails to adequately convey the full richness and nuance of the experience —and the individual participants.
