Technology round-up

DinnerTime is a new app marketed on the basis that parents can disable their children's phones and tablets from working so they can spend more quality time with them, at the dinner table, for example.

The tech behind the DinnerTime app has uses, but the current marketing is wrong — parents should not default to technology to control children. As for adults, disconnecting from the internet should be encouraged. A recent holiday without phone signal and internet access was a breath of fresh air.

Keep dry with Dark Sky

Getting out and about is a clear benefit of being a quallie, but we need to know what the weather will be like. And that’s why Dark Sky’s claim to use state-of-the-art technology to offer hyper-local meteorological predictions down to the minute appealed.

But this app really stands out from its rivals because of the beautiful visuals that it provides — the smooth radar diagrams are highly engaging. It’s available exclusively on the App Store.
